How to Feed Paper Into a Brother Word Processor
NOTE:

LOADING PAPER IN TRAY #1
- To load Letter-, A4-, or Executive-size paper in Tray #1, click here.

Loading Letter-, A4-, or Executive-size paper in Tray #1
NOTE: After you load paper into the tray, you must also change the Brother machine's Paper Size setting and the printer driver setting to match the paper size you've loaded. To do this, please follow these steps to completion.
1. If the paper support flap (1) is open, close it, and then close the paper support (2).
2. Pull Tray #1 completely out of the machine.
- Tray #1 is the top paper tray.
3. Gently press and slide the paper side guides (1) to fit the paper you're loading.
- Make sure the triangular mark (2) on the paper side guide (1) lines up with the mark for the paper size you're using.
4. Lift up the A4/LTR stopper (3) to hold the paper in landscape orientation.
5. Open the output paper tray cover (1).
6. Fan the stack of paper well to avoid jams and misfeeds.
NOTE: Make sure the paper is not curled or wrinkled.
7. Gently put the paper into the tray in landscape orientation, print side down, and top edge first.
- Make sure the paper is flat in the tray.
IMPORTANT:
- Do not push the paper too far into the tray. If you do, the paper may lift at the back of the tray and cause feed problems.
- If you want to add paper before the tray is empty, remove the paper from the tray and combine it with the paper you're adding. Always fan the stack of paper well before loading it into the tray. If you add paper without fanning the stack, the machine may feed multiple pages at once.
8. Close the output tray cover.
9. Gently adjust the paper guides to fit the paper.
- Make sure the paper guides touch the edges of the paper.
- Make sure the paper is flat in the tray and below the maximum paper mark (1).
10. Slowly push the paper tray completely into the machine.
11. While holding the paper tray in place, pull out the paper support (1) until it clicks, then unfold the paper support flap (2).
12. Change the machine's Paper Size setting to match the paper you loaded:
a. Press
.
b. Press the displayed paper size for Tray #1.
c. Press PAPER SIZE.
d. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW to display the paper size options.
e. Press the paper size you loaded into the tray.
- You can press Letter, A4, or EXE.
f. Press

13. If you are printing from a computer, do one of the following:

Loading Ledger-, Legal-, Folio-, or A3-size paper in Tray #1
NOTE: After you load paper into the tray, you must also change the Brother machine's Paper Size setting and the printer driver setting to match the paper size you've loaded. To do this, please follow these steps to completion.
1. If the paper support flap (1) is open, close it, and then close the paper support (2).
2. Pull Tray #1 completely out of the machine.
- Tray #1 is the top paper tray.
3. Adjust the tray length for the paper you're loading:
a. Press the universal guide release button (1) as you slide out the front of the paper tray.
b. Make sure the triangular mark on the output paper tray cover is aligned with the line indicating Legal- or Folio-size (2) paper, or Ledger- or A3-size (3) paper.
4. Gently press and slide the paper side guides (1) to fit the paper you're loading.
- Make sure the triangular mark (2) on the paper side guide (1) lines up with the mark for the paper size you're using.
5. Open the output paper tray cover (1).
6. Fan the stack of paper well to avoid jams and misfeeds.
NOTE: Make sure the paper is not curled or wrinkled.
7. Gently put the paper into the tray in portrait orientation, print side down, and top edge first.
- Make sure the paper is flat in the tray.
IMPORTANT:
- Do not push the paper too far into the tray. If you do, the paper may lift at the back of the tray and cause feed problems.
- If you want to add paper before the tray is empty, remove the paper from the tray and combine it with the paper you're adding. Always fan the stack of paper well before loading it into the tray. If you add paper without fanning the stack, the machine may feed multiple pages at once.

NOTE: You can only load plain Ledger-, Letter-, Legal-, A3- or A4-size paper in Tray #2.

c. Press PAPER SIZE.
d. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW to display the paper size options.
e. Press the paper size you loaded into the tray.
- You can press Ledger, Legal, or A3.
